Alfred Kubin

Alfred Kubin was an Austrian writer, printmaker and book illustrator born in 1877.
Kubin's drawing show an image of humanity subjected and enslaved by the obscure forces of destiny, absurdity and madness represented by the recurrent images of monsters and deformity. Nietzsche's and Schopenhauer's philosophical doctrines have greatly influenced his creativity. His novel The Other Side has been considered to be his greatest one, a chef d'oeuvre of darkness that is said to have strongly influenced Franz Kafka, H.P. Lovecraft, Junger and the Surrealists.
